Small Quantity Clothing Manufacturer · Explained

Small quantity,
full standard.

Searching for a small quantity clothing manufacturer? Here is the honest landscape — what 30–50 pieces per style requires from a factory, which shortcuts other factories take, and how we keep boutique standards at small runs.

The small-quantity landscape
The industry floor

Most factories: 100–300 pieces per style. Below that, setup costs eat the margin.

Who says yes

Workshops that say yes to 30 pieces often say yes to lower standards too — check the inspections.

Our floor

30–50 pieces per style since 2016, with multi-skill operators instead of single-step lines.

Same discipline

3 inspections, AQL 1.0–2.0, mannequin try-on on every piece — identical at 30 or 500.

What "small quantity" actually demands from a factory

Cutting 30 pieces is easy. Making 30 pieces worth selling is not: the pattern must be developed and mock-up tested, the fabric relaxed and cut with discipline, every garment inspected three times — and the fixed costs of all that land on a small run. Factories solve this pressure in two ways: some lower the standard quietly; a few — like us — built the whole floor for it. Multi-skill operators instead of single-step lines mean 30-piece runs are native work here, not a favor we resent.

The shortcuts to watch for when you compare quotes

At small quantities, the cheapest quote usually hides one of these: fabric cut straight off the roll (no 48-hour relaxation, so sizes drift), single in-line inspection instead of three, no mannequin try-on, overlocked-only seams on delicate fabrics, and "sampling" skipped straight to bulk. None of these appear in the price — they appear in your customer reviews two months later.

Ask every factory on your list the same three questions: how many inspections per garment, is fit tested on a moving body, and are seams enclosed on delicate fabrics. The answers sort the market faster than any price comparison. Here is how to verify workmanship yourself →

What we build at 30–50 pieces

Premium wovens for boutique brands: dresses, blazers and suit sets, skirts, shirts and statement RTW pieces in viscose, linen, cotton-linen, satin, cupro and TR suiting. Clients retail at $250–$1,000; our minimum order value is $1,500. We do not make knitwear, wool coats, heavy outerwear or down — and we say so on the first call.

Quick answers

What counts as a small quantity order?

In the industry, anything under about 100 pieces per style counts as small — most factories start at 100-300. Our native range is 30-50 pieces per style, per color, with sizes mixed within one color.

Why do some factories refuse small orders?

Pattern making, grading, marking and line setup are fixed costs. Spread over 30 pieces they raise the unit price — spread over 300 they almost vanish. Factories built for volume refuse small runs because the math stops working on their lines.

How do I keep quality high at small quantities?

Ask three questions before you compare prices: how many inspections per garment, is fit tested on a moving body, and are seams enclosed on delicate fabrics. Then demand the mock-up rounds — a fit problem at 30 pieces costs one style; at 300 it costs your season.

What is your minimum order value?

$1,500 — typically reachable with 3-6 styles at 30 pieces for most constructions. Clients retail at $250-1,000.
