Cutting 30 pieces is easy. Making 30 pieces worth selling is not: the pattern must be developed and mock-up tested, the fabric relaxed and cut with discipline, every garment inspected three times — and the fixed costs of all that land on a small run. Factories solve this pressure in two ways: some lower the standard quietly; a few — like us — built the whole floor for it. At small quantities, the cheapest quote usually hides one of these: fabric cut straight off the roll (no 48-hour relaxation, so sizes drift), single in-line inspection instead of three, no mannequin try-on, overlocked-only seams on delicate fabrics, and "sampling" skipped straight to bulk. Why do some factories refuse small orders?
Pattern making, grading, marking and line setup are fixed costs. Spread over 30 pieces they raise the unit price — spread over 300 they almost vanish. Factories built for volume refuse small runs because the math stops working on their lines.
